to answer your question. yes tires. are they worn down?…if not it, this probably isnt your prob. i know that the cold water hardens up the hose. until spring when the water warms up you will continue to have this prob. you can replace the hose and its swivels. but if you think it is the unit, some pool stores will diagnose your unit for free and even give you free labor on repairs. maybe try to rotate the two front tires to the back and visa-versa. this sometimes helps also.

A. PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
Problem: Legend® Platinum doesn’t move or
moves sluggishly or hangs up on steps.
Solution: 1. Be sure filter pump and booster pump
are on and working properly. (You may
need to clean your pool filter system).
2. Check the Wall Fitting screen for debris
and rinse clean.
3. Check wheel RPM (See page 8).
4. Determine if the Back-Up Valve is
cycling. (Hold the valve out of the
water and the jet should come on for
approx. 30 seconds and shut off for
approx. 3 minutes and 30 seconds.)
5. Check all the Hose connections and
Swivels for leaks that can cause loss
of water pressure.
6. Check debris that may be jammed in
the gear teeth on one of the front drive
wheels. Gently rotate the front wheels
backward to dislodge debris.

Polaris 280 Pool Cleaner Question?

I have a polaris 280 automatic pool cleaner, but for some reason it just sits in one spot! It used to zip around the whole pool, but now its stationary. Please help!!

I just happen to be a pool technician, been one for 20 years. With the equipment running, pick the cleaner up and see if the wheels are turning. If not, do they turn freely by hand?

If they turn freely by hand, then you have a plugged jet that drives the wheels, and it is trying to move with only the jet at the back of it. I would recommend you take it in to have the jet cleaned out, unless your familiar with taking it apart. A word of caution though, this is the most common thing that pool stores miss on the Polaris.

If you don’t have good water pressure, try checking the screen where it comes out of the pool wall, at the regulator valve, and that your pump is working properly.

Pool Algae Removal

Algae likes the wet environment and with the conditions present in pool water, they can multiply very quickly. For example, heavy rain and many bathers people causes algae to multiply dramatically. However, a properly maintained swimming pool or spa pool, will never seen this. Some algal types cannot be removed by the pool filter and it therefore requires the addition of chemicals (e.g. chlorine) and the right pH balance, to get to grips with these algae. A swimming pool that looks like this is not preferable! How do I get and maintain a good water hygiene?

Chlorine is the most important and active chemical agent used to remove algae and bacteria from your water. It is available mostly as granular, liquid and tablets, in many different variations. The use of chlorine in bath water to disinfect the algae and bacteria from sweat, insects, etc. you can achieve hygienic and inviting pool water. However, when algae attacks are very dramatic, especially from black water algae, as set in the pool bottom and sides, it may be necessary to combine manual pool cleaning with a hard bristled brush to remove algae. Chlorine addition is ineffective if the pH balance is not okay. It is therefore important to regulate water pH before the addition of chlorine. There are many possibilities to regulate the pH of the water and it depends on which way the pH must be regulated.

NB: Please note that adding chemicals to pool water, including chlorine, may only be done observing the safety instructions in the product manuals. These concerns include that must be respected many (min. 6) hour intervals between addition of ph products and chlorine products to avoid harmful chlorine vapors.
