If you have a solid one piece hose and a rectangular attachment with rollers on it likely it is a manual vacuum. Good, since a manual vacuum is the fastest way to clean your pool/spa. If you look in your skimmer and remove the diverter, round disc shaped flying saucer deal, in the bottom with the pump off remove and you should see two holes in the bottom, the one away from the pool is the suction one, put the vacuum hose in this one. Put manual vacuum in the pool attached to the hose and pole. Flood your vacuum hose and attach to the outer hole, turn your pump on. After the pump primes you can start vacuuming.
If you have an automatic vacuum you would be best advised to contact a pool maintenance person how can come out and show you how to set up your vacuum and operate it.
You're welcome!!
