I never bought cartridge cleaner. Initially we had some filters that seemed to be made out of a cardboardish type material. These only stood up for a few cleanings. When I replaced them, the new cartridges used a plastic or vinyl type material. With this I could a use a pressure washer which greatly helped in the cleaning process.
